Luke: "It's Sunday! Why aren't we going to the circus?"

Me: "Luke, Honey, it's Friday...why do you think it's Sunday?"

Luke: Because the sun is out. And it's a day."

Me: "Luke and Zoey! It is nap time! You're supposed to be sleeping! What are you doing?"

Zo: "We're yaking!"

Luke: "And starting a tickle fight!"

(These phrases courtesy of the library book "Simpson's Sheep Won't Go to Sleep," where instead of sleeping the sheep yak and need a drink and start tickle fights with each other, etc. There is a lot of play surrounding things read about in books or seen on TV lately...)

Me, after 10 minutes of extracting half a cashew stuck WAY up Sissy's nose: "Sis, how did the cashew get into your nose?"

Zo: "It jumped into my nose!"

Zo, waking up from nap a few days after the circus: "Mommy, come on! I'm going to do a show!"

And then she sat me on the couch and brought me pretend water from her play kitchen and a bowlful of pretend popcorn, and then sang and danced around the living room. Ridiculously cute.

Luke, out and about: "Look! A CPS truck!"

Daddy: "UPS truck, Buddy. UPS."

(We have had discussions about CPS--child protective services--with our kids when they say things like they want us to leave them somewhere by themselves e.g. the zoo, we explain that CPS would frown on that so it's not something we can do...)

Zo to me, while we were waiting for Daddy while he ran into the liquor store: "What's Daddy getting?"

Me: "Whiskey."

Zo: "Oh, like the whiskey we drank at the circus!"

(Actually, what she and her daddy had at the circus was root beer. And the kids have been told in the past that beer is something just for grownups, something I'm sure we've said about whiskey as well...)
