Whole 30 #3
I did the Whole 30 again starting the first day of spring. Here's a recap so I can look back the next time and get a general idea how things went.
Day 1: My downfall with Whole 30 is I eat terribly before it knowing it's going to happen. The kids birthday was this past week so there is plenty of junk in the house. Cake and cheese balls and a beer yesterday... Woke up this morning feeling pretty terrible. Ate well through the day, not really craving/missing anything. Excited to start.
Day 2: Feeling better already, good night's sleep, joints really really hurt. Again not really craving/missing anything. (When I did this in January I really wanted a drink on the porch in the evening, but not feeling that this time at all.)
Day 3: Woke early feeling great after solid 7 hours sleep. Have been dealing with pretty bad insomnia for weeks and -- poof -- that's just gone. My joints hurt like crazy...
Day 4: So much for the insomnia...terrible time sleeping last night and my whole body aches...
Day 7: Getting really discouraged actually...doing this so the aches and pains in my joints go away and I sleep better...and I am sleeping a little better but still not terrific and the aches are better but not gone...probably just need some more time but am impatient. Still not really craving anything so grateful for that!
Day 8: Super bloated, joint ache...why do my joints ache so much??
Day 9 on: I feel so skinny! And though I'm not doing this to lose weight, a few pounds never hurts...
Day 12: Hungry and headachy.
Day 13: Apres ski and wasn't craving a cider at all. And Mexican after and no problem skipping the chips. Although I have been craving a cheese enchilada for days. Also my body is still aching, although not nearly as much. Sleep has been really good. Waking up early which isn't a bad thing...
Days 16 on: Cravings are gone. Hip feels great. Weight feels perfect (I haven't weighed myself though). Feel great in a bikini. Sleeping well, often waking at 5 or 6. It's amazing what getting the crap out of your diet does.
Days 28, 29: Want to finish early and have something forbidden. I resist. :)
Day 30: Finished strong!
And the results: Sleeping great (although waking early), my hip doesn't hurt at all, at my ideal weight (I didn't weigh myself before I started, but I know I lost a little). The Whole 30 this time was hard but not terrible. I didn't cheat at all! Now the challenge is to figure out what sustaining all the benefits looks like. I'm reintroducing foods one at a time, very carefully...

9 things
- Construction in our circle will be done next month. I am so excited. The days of construction equipment in my pictures are numbered...
- Kids are playing on the lawn with their "Little People," pretending to be giants making people stew. On the one hand I feel like I should be stopping that, on the other my husband and I are relaxing on the porch and they are having the best time, so...
- So warm today, loving that spring is finally here...
- Super tired, and super busy with work as the week ends...
- Naming project this week...I think naming is my favorite thing...
- Zo, up in her room with the windows open: "Mommy I like my windows open because I like to hear the chirping birds. They sound so cute!"
- And wearing her cute hot air balloons dress that is really getting too small...
- Jeff made chorizo-and-mushroom-stuffed poblanos the other night and the leftovers are really all I want to eat...
- I need fewer lists...and fewer items on the lists...
Happy weekend!

- Kids: "We're right over here Mommy if you need a hug."
- I've been doing the Whole 30 and the kids have been asking a lot of questions about what I can and can't eat. The've come up with the concept of the "Zero 30," which is where you eat nothing but pizza and cupcakes

14 things
- Newton's so healthy and full of energy...grateful...
- Luke and Zo have this thing where they've been getting a running start and then tackling me with a hug. "We're going to give you the biggest hug ever!" they say.
- Also: Walking the dog and jumping in puddles, and Luke running to race cars on the sidewalk...
- Also: The kids plans to make a movie called "Esophagus!"
- Also: They (kids) get up on the counter or couch for a piggy back ride and call it "The Piggyback Studio..."
- Heavy snow this morning and thunder and lightning tonight. Luke's falling asleep in the chair beside me because the thunder is scaring him. Longing for warm days...
- Our washing machine is broken...it's 2 weeks before the repair person can come out...
- Experimenting with a bullet journal...excited to be trying something new...
- My TO DO lists are always too long...there are not enough hours in the day...it's an ongoing process to fix this, maybe the bullet journal thing will help. Lists the way I've been doing them on the computer aren't working that great in that items can stay on there for months...
- Loving waking up in the morning and seeing pics from my dad's day on the Camino...
- Watching TV in the evenings lately...The Magicians (which Jeff introduced me to), The Crown, Lucifer, Big Bang Theory...
- Zo got super sick and threw up all over the car yesterday and her room last night. She's feeling better now but how do we get the car clean??
- Excited to have construction done in our circle. June...
- I've been sleeping really great lately...grateful...

- I love all the little rituals kids and I have, like going to get new registration for the cars each year...always a picture with this moose after, today with a dandelion offering. Jeff says someday the kids aren't going to be excited about this sort of stuff and I know he's right, but for now it makes a fun little outing...
- Tired from a great weekend trip to Denver with Jeff but was able to have a quiet day with the kids which was nice...although all 3 (me and kids) of us were a little on the cranky/whiny side...some days are just like that, you know...tomorrow is another day...
- Zo busy making a "back in time machine" up in her bedroom...love when she turns into a little engineer...
- Zo singing in the back seat while we were driving around doing errands, after she had listed a number of things that started with P: "I know that 'cause I'm smart, smart, smart!" she sang. I love that she sees herself that way. Want to do everything I can to make sure that never goes away...
- Scratchies and songs for Luke and then Zo and then back to Luke tonight, until my babes were both asleep...

First time ever to the top of Serpent's Trail!
We had such a great hike with Grammy the other day...top of Serpent's Trail which is 3.75 miles and 700 ft elevation gain, so a good hike, the longest the kids have done. So looking forward to hiking with them this spring/summer/fall...
Luke was so excited at the top and the kids were so sweet to each other and Sis sang made-up songs the whole way down and Luke was so interested in learning about things from Grammy. And the Pancake Flapper (renamed the Blueberry Pancake Flapper on this trip)...that's always going to be a special place for us. And we did a scavenger hunt and found everything on the list except for the bighorn sheep and water and animal tracks. But we also added a bunny and a jet and a sparkly rock. :)
Love, love, love having outdoor kids...

- Easy road trip with the kids, they are such good travelers...
- Sis wanting Foo Fighters at top volume, the smile on her face listening was priceless

- Luke's berm looking so pretty...
- So great to get to spend some time with my mom...we had a great talk about kindergarten coming and how my life will really be changing...
