Grace in small things, last day of preschool edition

  1. Balloons to celebrate the last day of preschool...love how little things like balloons make the kids so incredibly happy...
  2. One last hike with a friend who has a boy in the kids' preschool class...we've been hiking when we can Tuesdays throughout the school year and it's been so nice...
  3. Zo working on her letters like crazy...but how is it that her wanting to write coincides with both kids being fascinated with bathroom humor? Tonight what Zo wanted to write--to her grandparents no less--was "Unicorn going potty." lol...as long as she's practicing writing, right?
  4. Tough night's sleep last night but I was able to sleep in (I woke up around 7:30...Zo was on the couch patiently waiting for me) so I wasn't tired at all today...
  5. FaceTime with friends this morning while the kids ate their breakfast French toast with whipped cream and berries at 10 AM. Speaking of which...how am I ever going to get out of the house for 8 AM Kindergarten?? Our schedule all these years has been soooooo leisurely. Oh well I've got 3 months to figure it out, right?

Hello, summer vacation!!

6 things

  1. Parfaits for the kids today as part of running errands (gas, post office, drug store, dog food). They (kids) are good errand runners. And a promise of parfaits got them eating cherries and yogurt and asparagus for lunch (Sis actually negotiated asparagus instead of finishing her yogurt...asparagus is not what I would have predicted the choice to be...)
  2. Kids eating more/better is going great. Feels good to be really focused on that...
  3. Today has just flown by...work in the morning and lots of personal stuff...some focused play time with the kids too...Sis and I played "farm" putting various stuffs in select locations and Luke just wanted to snuggle...
  4. Been reading a lot in little bits and spurts...Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (which I'm debating putting down), The Art of Photography which has some really interesting ideas as far as thinking about what you want to take pictures of and why, e.g. what are you trying to say?, Your Brain at Work, which I've read before but trying to pull out key takeaways to be more efficient/productive. And kids and I are reading James and the Giant Peach again and finishing up Winnie the Pooh and I have plans for lots more chapter books this summer...I was getting sad the other day about the kids outgrowing picture books until I remembered when I was a kid picture books and chapter books coexisted for a long time...
  5. Kids have been playing together just beautifully today...I'm listening to them right now upstairs...something about hideouts and pirates and a hospital and the cow stopping to give milk for some reason, lol...
  6. Tomorrow is the last day of preschool and I'm feeling a little sad about it. Luke doesn't want it to end, mostly I think because he likes seeing his friend Paisley there. Sis hasn't said anything one way or the other...

Happy Monday!

Grace in small things, first pajama hike of the season edition

  1. We started doing pajama hikes when the kids were 1 or 2 back in Albuquerque...the best time to do a summer hike was early before it got hot and I couldn't get it together to get them dressed and out of the house so we went in PJs and went through the Satellite Coffee drive thru on Montgomery for coffee and milk and bagels and then would go hiking...awww...this is making me miss New Mexico...but anyways, the pajama hike tradition has continued and this morning was a particularly great one, warm and milk and home-made peanut butter and banana sandwiches for breakfast and the kids made a bridge into a pirate ship and then made boats out of rocks in a meadow a little further on...such a fun morning...
  2. Getting a little teary about the end of preschool...just one more day...
  3. Smooth and easy workday...
  4. Lots of little personal tasks accomplished...yay!
  5. About to go do baths and stories and tuck kids in...I'll likely lie with them while they fall asleep tonight...I've been doing that lately and love doing it...

Happy June!

Grace in small things: "War" edition

  2. Kids are so excited about going to Montessori in the fall...and I just found out school doesn't start until September 5th!! We're going to have such a nice long summer...
  3. Playing rhyming games driving to school...
  4. Great hike today after dropping the kids off at preschool...the first day it's been warm enough not to take a sweatshirt and Spring Creek is rushing loud and there are tiny velvety black and tiny periwinkle and huge yellow butterflies everywhere...bliss...
  5. My husband cooking dinner AND prepping dinner for tomorrow night...he is the best...so appreciate all his help...

Happy Monday!

Grace in small things, Memorial Day 2017 edition

  1. These peonies we got at the store today...phenomenal...my favorite flower and they're available for such a short time...
  2. Hot springs with the kids, so fun (although crowded), two days in a row...
  3. Got to see Uncle Ben and Aunt Jaimie and Bodie and Bailee over the weekend...always the best...
  4. Gorgeous walk with the dog tonight, Fox Creek Trail is lined with bushes blooming in white, so gorgeous...
  5. Dragons Love Tacos 2 is making the kids laugh like crazy...
  6. Three full days off...much needed...we're all still struggling with sickness a bit and I have a crazy workday tomorrow because I didn't do anything over the weekend but I needed some downtime sooooo badly...so glad I took it...
  7. So I'll write more about what I'm trying to accomplish this summer sometime soon but one of my goals is to put some weight on my kids...they're skinny enough that I'm mildly worried about it...but I want it to be nutritious weight I'm putting on...anyway, a big grocery shop and Day 1 and we did great today as far as them eating and eating good stuff...one day at a time, right?

Happy Memorial Day!
