The Steamboat Barn as playground, Daddy dance party + how to be rich

  1. Had a little after-school fun with the kids' friend Enya at "The Famous Steamboat Barn" as my kids like to call it...kids got weeds and snow and and got up on a rock and mixed up some soup in a bowl-like depression...how well I remember doing the exact same thing up behind the Woodside house where I grew up...love that the kids are getting my childhood...
  2. 19 inches of snow earlier this week!! Hoping for an epic season on the mountain...
  3. Daddy coming home from a work dinner at bedtime, dancing with the kiddos to much laughter...
  4. Zo: "Why do you need a lot of money to be rich?" Me: "You don't. You do if you're talking about being rich in money, but you can be rich in other things. Like being rich in color is lots of color. Being rich in love is lots of love. What else can you be rich in?" Daddy (chiming in from the other room): "Ponies." (Zo is in love with My Little Pony at the moment...lots of pony toys around...)
  5. Zo writing 20 random letters in the string and then having me read the word, also to much laughter...

Happy Wednesday!

Porcupine on the move, Luke's crazy memory + Zoey gets excited about Halloween

fullsizeoutput_76b5.jpeg
  1. My mother-in-law is an incredibly gifted seamstress and each year has graciously made the kids the coolest Halloween costumes. One of my favorite parts of October is getting out all the pictures of the kids in the costumes she's made. This year she's really outdone herself with Luke's porcupine costume...detailed pics to follow sometime this month but love this shot of him trying on his costume and tearing around the house...
  2. Me a few nights ago: "It's going to snow." Luke: "Yay!!"
  3. Luke: "I have a new friend. He lives in Hayden on Honeysuckle Drive, just like my friends Benaiah and Elias." Me: "How do you know Benaiah and Elias' street?" Luke: "I remember from when we picked them up for the eclipse." (Back in August.) I saw their mama that evening and asked what street she lives on and sure enough, Luke had it right.
  4. Back in Albuquerque I made a little blue-and-white sign listing out the playroom rules (e.g.: have fun, be nice, share.) We rediscovered it recently and I was going to put it somewhere safe vs the bookshelf where it kept falling down. But the kids told me, "No, it's better that it be in a place where it can fall down. So then we can review on a regular basis."
  5. Zo helping me decorate for Halloween. She took everything piece by piece out of the boxes and ran it upstairs, placing it where she wanted it. She was soooooo excited to be helping!

Happy Tuesday!

Rain, hiccups, the future + notes in lunch boxes

fullsizeoutput_7682.jpeg
  1. Rainy and misty today...lovely...
  2. Zo: "Hiccups make me have bad dreams!"
  3. Kids are talking a lot about friends and social interactions at school...fun to hear about...
  4. Zo blew my mind yesterday when we were talking about the future and I was trying to explain that it was a time and she was trying to convince me it was a place and I started to believe her...
  5. Fun at Karaoke with Jeff's work friends Wednesday...and I'm meeting some of my mom friends tonight...
  6. And also Wednesday, we had back-to-school night and they played a video of all the kids gathered singing on International Day of Peace...I got all teary...so sweet...loving Montessori...
  7. Sleeping better the past couple nights...and Zo's been staying in her bed again which I'm sure is helping...
  8. Zo asking for a note in her lunchbox (which I've done a couple times): "I want it to say something about rainbows and cupcakes and that you love me and please make the "O" and "Y" in my name into hearts."

Happy Friday!

XOXO

A tea party, shooting stars, sleeping in + Luke's first solo gondola ride

fullsizeoutput_7646.jpeg
  1. A lot going on for Daddy this weekend at work...we missed him...here's Luke waiting patiently for his Dada to come home...
  2. Zo and I going to the hot springs together and having such a lovely time...
  3. Lots of rain on Saturday and we had such a nice time with the kids and I having a tea party, lighting candles, having this delightful little lunch where I had all their art and work from the week in piles and we took our time talking about each piece...
  4. Nice dinner out with Jeff Saturday, followed by sitting on the porch and talking and some amazing shooting stars...there's no moon right now and it's clear, so ideal...
  5. Slept in on Sunday ('til 8:30 AM)...Luke was up super early but entertained himself on the iPAD...not the best parenting on my part but I'm never able to sleep in and it felt sooooo good...
  6. Gondola ride Sunday and as we approached the gondola Luke told me he wanted to ride by himself. I almost didn't let him but he's a really responsible little kid so in the end I did and I'm glad I did...he did great and was so proud of what a big boy he was...
  7. Kids unloading groceries and carrying them up the stairs all by themselves...

Hope your weekend's been great!

Applesauce season, warm weather + downtime

  1. First batch of applesauce cooked up with Bubs today...so fun...and so delicious!
  2. Coffee with a lovely friend this morning at Yampy's, which is lovely...I'd never been...great little break between school drop-off and the start of my workday...
  3. Worked up in Luke's room while the kids were at school today...nice up there. I don't have a great office space so find myself migrating to different spots in the house, which totally works...
  4. Nice and warm this afternoon...I know our warm days are numbered...
  5. An afternoon and evening at home with the kids with not much planned...so nice...we need to do more of this...
