6th birthday party!

What a fun 6th birthday party we had for Luke and Zo! Friends came with and without their mamas and we played the donut game and spoon-and-egg races and Jeff made tacos and each kid had a chocolate cake and we sang Happy Birthday and candles and we had a piñata which was fun but broke open too soon. If we do it again, we'll make it harder. Grammy and Papa and Me-Ma were in attendance as well, which was really special. Kids had such a good time. Happy 6th birthday you guys!!

Birthday gifts

Of course the best gift of all was Daddy surprising the kids by coming home for the weekend. I told Luke and Zo we were going on a little adventure and we drove out to the airport and they still hadn't guessed until Daddy came out the front door...the kids were sooooooo happy. And me too. We're making this work with Jeff in HI without us for a short time, but it just felt wonderful to be with him...

Montessori birthday

They do such a nice job with kids birthdays in the Montessori classroom Luke and Zo are in. We split up the celebrations so they could each have their own. Zo was first in the morning and she had put together a timeline of pictures 0 through 5 and we talked about each year, where we were and things we did and she walked around the sun after we talked about each year. We sang Happy Birthday and people raised their hands to give her compliments. And then she put out the candle and distributed popsicle treats. We also gave a gift to the class--the book "Penguin Problems" which I read to the class while the kids ate their treat. It was really awesome.

A few hours later we did the same with Luke...his book was "Dragons Love Tacos" and treat was muffins...

Love their school...

RIDICULOUS powder today...untouched in so many places even at 11 AM when I got off the mountain to go be a responsible adult. Easily the best day of the season snow-wise. Headed back out tomorrow...

PS I've got lots of birthday pics I can't wait to share...birthdays were amazing...

Last day of 5

fullsizeoutput_838b.jpeg
  1. I made this piñata stick for the kids' birthday party on Saturday...I'm not that great at DIY, but this turned out super cute...
  2. Zo in the car this morning: "I wish Daddy was going to be here for my birthday." They still don't know he's flying in on Friday...
  3. Luke snuggling up to me while we were sitting on a bench waiting for the car to be washed, and assuring me that even though he was turning 6, he would still hug and snuggle and love on his mama...
  4. Luke helping me put together the pasta tonight (after watching a cooking competition with Me-Ma on TV), shredding cheese on all four sides of the grater and explaining how this--cheese four different sizes--was the secret to his really delicious pasta. He sounded just like one of the chefs on TV...so adorable... And he put the cheese and butter in and stirred...and ate his whole portion. He seems to eat better when he helps with the cooking...and I love having him help, so...
  5. Zo eating all her asparagus...and asking for seconds...and thirds...
  6. Zo, explaining the running around and laughing before bed: "We needed some extra giggles tonight!"
  7. And they were giggling because they were playing "Clumsy Superhero," lol...
  8. We've been reading every night out of "A Poem for Every Night of the Year"...I love the poems in this book and the kids do too...
  9. The kids are soooooooo excited to turn 6! And I have such an awesome day planned for them...

Happy Wednesday!

Pillow forts, sunshine + artichokes

  1. Kept kids home from school today with minor coughs and runny noses...in retrospect they were healthy enough to go but wanted to make sure they were 100% for their upcoming birthday celebrations. They spent a good chunk of the afternoon playing in the playhouse their Me-Ma made them (that goes over the dining room table...it's so awesome...) and making pillow forts...
  2. Just wonderful news from my dad last night...
  3. Warm enough to sit outside and read in the sunshine with the kids this afternoon...bliss...
  4. Finally getting caught up on work...it's been an intense few weeks...
  5. Hotels booked for Father/Daughter trip...so excited... (thanks, Jeff!)
  6. Cleaned and organized the living room this evening, it looks so nice...and made grilled chicken and artichokes for dinner...so delicious...

Happy Tuesday!

Love, love, love skiing with my littles! Snow was so nice up top but spring conditions (slush) at the base...which is OK...it's almost spring... We never really got our winter this year but we've still had fun and I'm hoping to get up a couple days a week for the rest of the season. Zo told me yesterday she wants to do first chair one day to experience fresh corduroy, and Luke I promised to take to the top of Storm Peak before the season is out...

Happy Monday!

Panic at Montessori, it's starting to feel like we are actually moving(!) + so much love for my little ones

fullsizeoutput_831c.jpeg
  1. So at school today Luke wasn't there for pickup and there was some talk about him looking for something and would I please pull over and wait and they'd bring him out to me. (We stay in the car for drop-off and pick-up.) And so I did and I waited...and waited...and waited...and started to get a little worried that something might have happened to him. Finally, his teacher came out and said to me, "We've looked everywhere...the gym, the halls, the classrooms, and we can't find him." I stayed super calm...I was worried but figured most likely scenario he was probably just hiding from me being funny...so Zo and I walked into the school and Luke popped his head out of the classroom and I said, "Oh, they found you!" And his teacher said, "No, his shoes. His shoes have been missing. Not him!" And they all hugged me when they realized I thought it was my son who was lost...they were so sweet, and so apologetic. I've still got that adrenaline running through my veins...oh man...
  2. We sold the minivan today! To a friend which is awesome. Kids handled it very well...they've been sad about seeing it go, but were great about it today...
  3. Lots of other progress on many different fronts...we have a movers-coming-to-the-house date, a car-ship date, I have a plane ticket to go to Maui for a week so my husband and I can sort out our living situation, we're pre-approved for a loan... :)
  4. Two days in a row where I worked with the new work computer system and didn't have to call anyone for help...
  5. Going through past pictures in order to make timelines for kids' birthday next week...I'm so glad I have so many pictures...and looking back...what an absolute delight it has been having these kids...love them so much...

Happy Friday!
