A stomach bug, Bigfoot theories + a Knock Knock joke

fullsizeoutput_8139.jpeg
  1. Luke had a bad stomach bug Friday night into Saturday...we didn't get much sleep Friday...and laid low Saturday and Sunday and he thankfully seems all better...
  2. Errands with the kids this afternoon...car wash and the X-country ski shop to get the kids ready for lessons at Montessori starting tomorrow and City Market to pick up a snack for the class...it's Zo's turn...she got Honeycrisp apples and cheddar kangaroo crackers. She'll have to share her Knock Knock joke: "Knock Knock." "Who's there?" "Kanga." "Kanga who?" "Actually, it's Kangaroo!"
  3. Making New England clam chowder from scratch for dinner. First time and I think it's going to turn out yummy...
  4. While Luke was recovering we watched a couple shows on Bigfoot...Luke was so into the mystery of it...he thinks Bigfoot is real because in the famous video of Bigfoot he (Bigfoot) doesn't walk like a human...
  5. Lots of organization this weekend...cleaned my desk, took pictures and then recycled a bunch of kid art (and saved a few special pieces), got returns and other mail ready to go. Feels good...

Happy Monday!

Had a blast today. Runs are a little inconsistent but overall in pretty good shape. Best run of the day was Shadows, which I got to the top of and tops of little Christmas trees were poking out everywhere...if I had had an alternative I would have taken it but there wasn't one and the run ended up being soft and powdery and deserted and no problem steering around the trees...super fun...

In which Zoey wins the dress-up contest

So lately I've been trying to have a half-hour of one-on-one time with each kid every day. And during that time, we can do whatever said kid wants. So Zo today wanted to have a dress-up contest, and drew Luke into the fun as a judge.

She gave me a green dress to put on but I wasn't allowed any shoes or jewelry.

She got out my wedding rehearsal dinner dress from years ago and I could tie the bow in the back tight enough to make it (sort of) stay on her and then she put on my highest black heels and together we raided my jewelry box (which started out with the reminder to NEVER NEVER NEVER touch the box without Mommy there.)

Anyway, guess who soundly won the dress up contest?

Happy Thursday!

XO

PS Luke also had a little playground accident today and has a cut by his eye, but thankfully no stitches.

Impromptu brewery tour, sleep tuck-ins make me happy + the kids are making the strangest lunches these days

  1. Our artist friend Julia and her daughter Enya invited us to Butcherknife Brewery last night where Julia was painting for them...only in Steamboat can you have 5- and 7-year-olds coloring in coloring books at the bar, lol. Love how kid-friendly everything is in this town. They also took the kids and I into the back to check out the brewing operation...they were shoveling used hops out of one of the vats... "Smells like dog food!" Zo said... kind of cool to see the mechanics of what goes on there...
  2. A couple days ago we let Luke and Zo get a donuts-with-chocolate-dipping-sauce dessert. "It's like hot chocolate," Luke said, "Only donut-ier!"
  3. Loving sleep tuck-ins with the kids...snuggling up with them until their breathing slows...each night we alternate whose turn it is...
  4. Just the right amount of work right now...
  5. Kids are helping to make their own lunches these days. The only rule is they need both a fruit and a vegetable. There's an obsession with "on the side," like Luke's bread and butter with slices of muenster cheese on the side (and, in the same vein, Zo's bread and mayo with slices of ham on the side), and their lunches don't seem big enough to me...but they are eating every bite, so...

Sunday morning comics

Yesterday Papa was telling the kids how their Uncle Luke had loved the Sunday comics. The kids then asked Papa to share the comics with them. He was happy to oblige.

Love how important their grandparents are to my kids. Mine were so incredibly special to me...

Tea party with Sis

Sis and I snuck away for a little tea party in the Gingerbread House on Saturday.

Snuggled up together drinking our tea she asked, "What is a moment?"

And we talked about how a moment can be past present or future and how right then in the cute and cozy room with the fire and the stormy gray clouds outside, red roses on the table and us sharing a chair with a fuzzy white blanket our limbs intertwined sipping hot and citrus-y Red Zinger tea just the two of us...this is a special moment...one I will remember forever...

XO

PS And next time we're in Junction, we're going to have Grammy join us for our tea party...another precious moment...

Gingerbread House

My mom had this little house built in her garden this fall...isn't it so charming?? I love every inch of it and it has such a warm, nurturing feel to it as well. Dreaming of having one of my own someday somewhere.
