Winter's still here, Hawaii is coming together! + anything can be a drum set

fullsizeoutput_86d1.jpeg
  1. Winter wonderland around here most of the day yesterday...but it was 50 degrees when I sent my kids to school in the morning without their winter jackets...I know better lol...
  2. Things are moving forward with our Hawaii house!!! It's a little cottage with a yard full of palms right across the street from the beach with a great hippie grocery store and a taco shop and a coffee place and a grassy park also right around the corner. I'm sooooooo ridiculously excited!!! It's the perfect place for us...
  3. Luke making a drum set out of boxes and toys and doing a concert for me last night...
  4. Love how much the kids love rock climbing class...
  5. Worked at the library a bit yesterday...such a beautiful place to spend some time...

Happy Wednesday!

Survival mode + let's go to Hawaii via Fed Ex! + grateful for help

fullsizeoutput_86d0.jpeg
  1. Some days I'm just happy to have survived: Barely any sleep last night (excited about the possibility of our HI house coming together) + our dog getting sick in about 15 (carpeted) locations upstairs + crazy work day + Zo getting sent home early from school for not feeling 100% + taxes + the never-ending "to do" list + whiny children... But I have made it through...
  2. Zo, at the Fed Ex office sending some stuff to Daddy in Hawaii: "I'm going to climb in the envelope! And I'm going to erase the return address so there's no way anyone can send me back!" And also her writing him a little love note and sliding it in amongst the papers. (I wrote him one, too.)
  3. I'm so thankful we have a washing machine in the house. Today's craziness would have been so much harder without one...
  4. Charlotte taking the kids downstairs for a little while so I could get my paperwork done...so grateful for her help...
  5. Learning some cool science for work today...

Happy Monday!

Great last day of the season. Missed having the kids out on the mountain with me but lots of people out drinking (smoking) and skiing closing day, and Jeff had asked that I not take them. And in the "Jeff is always right" category, I heard some guys talking in the lift line about how a guy had plowed over a little girl that morning...everyone was OK thank goodness, but still...

Found some little stashes of powder left over from Friday. Blue skies and great conditions. Sat on West End for a long time saying "thank you" and "goodbye" to the mountain...silly to be feeling sad and nostalgic as we'll be back to visit/ski/ride next year, and may well live here again... but I've really loved our time in Steamboat—especially the winters—even as we look forward to our next big adventure...

Great afternoon on the mountain with my friend Christine and her kids (who are AMAZING skiers/boarders)...always so fun to go out with friends...a bunch of fun runs and hot chocolate in the aspens and cookies for all the lifties with this note and then after there was a pink cadillac at the base from the cardboard classic that the kids played in while we listened to music and chatted and had a beer...such fun...

Also last night, Isle of Dogs which I loved...so quirky and cool...

I almost didn't go out today...been feeling unsettled with the Hawaii house stuff still up in the air and there's always my to do list, always work...but I'm so glad I talked myself into going. Really weird conditions with lower down powder over ice but up high the mountain is pristine...and practically empty which I know won't be the case when we go out this weekend. Morningside's been my happy place all year and today didn't disappoint...and then getting off that part of the mountain between there and Buddy's run was this crazy, windswept, moonscape-y untouched powder even at 2:30 PM. So gorgeous. (That's where these pictures were taken.) Can't believe the season is almost over but I'm not going to think about that yet because we have a super fun weekend planned with 2 more days on the mountain...

Happy Weekend!

A tea party, morning snuggles + why there's a headache

  1. Little tea party (with lego sculptures and the card game "War") with the kids yesterday afternoon...
  2. ...And a night out with some girlfriends...yay...so fun and so needed...
  3. Luke: "My head hurts. The envelopes that store my memories in my brain are a little too full right now."
  4. Zo up on her own this morning, snuggling with me a little before we had to start our day...
  5. Fried eggs and grapes this morning...my go-to breakfast lately...
  6. Fun kid weekend planned with a bunch of time on the mountain, hot springs, a movie or two...

Happy Friday!

Dish-clearing faces, cauliflower is the enemy + small acts of kindness

  1. Love the expressions on this girl when I ask her to clear her dishes...
  2. Luke asking me to park after pick-up so he could untangle a shark-tooth necklace from the playground fence that belonged to one of the boys he knows. He ran it back to the pick-up line once he untangled it...knew it would make the boy happy to get his necklace back...he is the sweetest...
  3. A much-needed haircut today...
  4. Luke at dinner: "Cauliflower is my worst enemy!!"
  5. Both kids are eating sooooo much better than they used to these days...
  6. You know that childhood rhyme "Finders keepers, losers weepers?" Well Luke and Zo's version is: "Finders keepers, losers sweepers." It sweeter that way and it makes me chuckle so I haven't corrected them, lol...

Happy Wednesday!

  6. I love love love our real estate agent...he is awesome...and we saw a house in Kehei yesterday that could work but I'm really excited about everything we'll see tomorrow...
  7. Miss the kids terribly but helps to know they are having fun with Me-Ma and well taken care of...
  8. Fish and some live music yesterday afternoon on Front Street...and then a torrential rainstorm late afternoon into the evening...we snuggled up with champagne and fruit and cheese that Jeff's boss had sent up to our room and watched The Magicians...fun and cozy...
  9. Woke up at 5 AM (well, honestly, 3:30, but I didn't get out of bed until 5) and doing a little work with a cup of coffee on the balcony, watching the pink of the sunrise...
  10. Reading "Hawaii" by James Mitchner and am totally sucked in...
  11. A bit of a work day and lunch with the Executive Team, also planning on some pool and/or beach time, a workout, maybe a little shopping, a fun dinner out with my husband...
