Beach BBQ, a calm morning + reading and being read to
Beach BBQ last night with some friends…we laughed so hard…I need more of that…
Quiet morning at home today after a somewhat chaotic week…
Kids reading picture books from the library to me…love picture books and I am sad that they are becoming less and less prominent in our lives…these days I’m reading chapter books to the kids…but we can keep the picture books going for a while if they are reading to me…
Almost done with” Little House on the Prairie” which the kids are loving…
Just feeling generally grateful today, for my husband, my kids, my work, this sweet house we’re living in, money to cover our expenses, tropical weather, a trip to Colorado to look forward to…
Happy Friday!

Out and about and it's fun to play in water...
Busy weekend with a beach dinner with a friend Friday night, the wrestling meet and a movie over in Kahului on Saturday, breakfast at Daddy’s hotel on Sunday and frolicking at the splash pad, water fights in the back yard, etc…really loving the tropical weather right now…
Happy Monday!

First wrestling meet!
Luke took 3rd place in his weight division on Saturday! He improved in each of his 3 matches and I think he learned a lot. He had fun too. I love what his coach told everyone last practice: “Right now the goal is not to win, it’s to get better. And then maybe in high school you can get your name up on that championship wall.”

Unicorn sleep mask, 5-figure math problems + a 2-pack
Finding Zo asleep with her unicorn mask on the other day…
Luke having space on his math homework to make up an addition problem and using 5-figure numbers.
Luke: “You know how the guys on American Ninja Warrior have a 6-pack on their tummies? Well I have a 2-pack.”
Luke let me know this morning that when I drop him at school I can just cross the street with him and then let him go the rest of the way to class by himself. “I’m getting older,” he told me. “I can have more independence.” (Zo still wants me to walk her.) It’s good that he wants that right??
Kids have been wanting to sleep together in Zoey’s room all week…
Jeff and I are watching Game of Thrones and it is amazing…also Barry which is also great…
Happy Friday!!

Spring break part 2
A few additional pics from spring break…a fun playdate at the beach, a family hike to the duck pond and we also went over to Kahului to watch the dragon movie on Sunday…so fun…
Kids went back to school yesterday…so appreciated having a quiet and connected week with them…
Happy Tuesday!

Spring break part 1
We’ve had such a sweet and mellow spring break so far, with the kids camping out on the lawn in my tent every night; a trip to the beach to celebrate the first sunset of spring; lots of cooking including this morning when we made “dippy eggs,” (Luke’s name for soft-boiled eggs and toast fingers); and pockets of special daddy time. We’ve also been reading Little House on the Prairie and watching Pokemon (which the kids love but I can’t say I’m a fan of) and going to all the kids’ athletic classes.
Tomorrow we have a beach playdate, and I think we’re going to go to the movies in Kahului over the weekend but not much else…it’s been wonderful to have all this time together, as always…

Luke + legos
Luke got legos for his birthday, and up until today, he always needed his daddy to help him build. Today he started building kits by himself though…gosh he’s growing up…

Our "Unicorns and Superheroes" 7th birthday party is in the books!
We invited Luke and Zoey’s class and a few other friends over for a “Unicorns and Superheros” party. (Love our birthday mashups!)
We weren’t sure what to expect as far as attendance as it’s the start of spring break and there’s flu going around, but we had just a perfect little group of kids and moms. Jeff and the kids and I all worked together this morning cleaning and getting the food ready and Zo and I made welcome signs and she made a “Pin the Tail on the Unicorn” unicorn (which the rest of us jokingly called a plumpicorn, but Zo said, “No, she’s not plump, she’s just going to have a baby!”)
We decorated with things we had and Jeff barbecued and I orchestrated some games with the kids and the kids played with their friends and toys and all the adults chatted which was so nice…and then Luke and Zo each had their own cake and everyone ate cake and ice cream…it was really special.
I didn’t take many pictures because I wanted to be in the moment, but I did capture a few before and a few of the guests…
We don’t do a party every single year but I really like to…this year was so nice…so grateful for the community we’re starting to build here…

Class birthday party
Kids and their friend Noah all have March birthdays and so yesterday we celebrated in class. The Sacred Hearts birthday song:
They say it’s your birthday
Happy happy birthday
It’s only once a year, so give it a cheer!
Happy birthday woooo!
Happy birthday woooo!
Happy birthday woooo!
(Followed by banging on the desks and cupcakes for all.)
Love Sacred Hearts…
Assembly
The first grade is doing Thursday assemblies this month and I’ve stayed a couple times to watch. This was last Thursday and I was so proud of Zo who got up twice and spoke in front of the whole school. Not the easiest thing for her but her music and drama teacher says she is making great strides in speaking up and I could really see that at assembly.
And Luke if anyone needed the microphone adjusted he hopped up and did it for them…he’s got such a helping heart…
