Wrestling potluck

People in Hawaii don’t mess around with potlucks, so much incredible home-made food. What a great way to wrap up the wrestling season. And…as an added bonus Luke came home with the “most improved” trophy. The coaches said his peers on the team are intimidated by his aggression (although they assured me when they told me that during the season that he’s respectful of the other kids and not doing anything out of line, just a really strong wrestler) and he’s got the pedal to the metal at all times.

Have loved the wrestling program here…such a great group of kids coaches and parents…

So proud of our little wrestler. And the names of the winners really illustrate the ethnic melting pot we live in, love the diversity…

May Day 2019

May Day is a really big deal at the kids’ school…all the kids have been practicing for months and there was a 2 1/2 hour program this morning, each class did a dance and there was a king and queen and court and just general loveliness. Luke and Zo were so scared the days leading up to it but didn’t seem that scared this morning and they did so great up on stage. Zo looks so different with her hair pulled back like they asked us to do! And she is a beautiful dancer, so graceful. Love our school for these special moments.

Happy Friday!

April 29, 2019

Yesterday was the anniversary of my brother’s death, which gosh, is still a hard day even all these years later. But I got to talk with my mom and dad which means a lot and Jeff stayed home from work (unasked…he just knew it would help me) and we went for a walk in the morning and out to lunch just the two of us and then had a normal kid afternoon with sports and dinner on the porch and snuggles at tuck-in and Luke gave me his wrestling medals to wear for the night so I wouldn’t be sad…it was as good as it could be. Lots of love in my life…

First Jui Jitsu tournament, sugar rush + a quiet plan for the evening

fullsizeoutput_9eef.jpeg
  1. Luke’s first Jui Jitsu tournament was today…he had 2 matches and lost both to the same kid…lots of tears at Jui Jitsu and not just on Luke’s part…but as I overheard a dad saying outside the gym to another kid who had lost, “It’s OK. Losing makes you a better winner.”

  2. Zo giving a review of yesterday’s birthday party right after: “It was great! There was lots of sugar! I’ve got a sugar rush! I don’t know what that is but I’ve got it!” (“Sugar rush” was something the birthday boy’s mom said to Zo, watching her wolf down her cake. It’s like my kids never get sweets lol...)

  3. Zo is doing great cartwheels these days…so glad she is loving gymnastics…

  4. We’ve been so busy…trying to have pockets of calm like now late Sunday afternoon…going to pop over to the store shortly for a few things, sit on the back porch with Jeff while the kids play on the dome, have a little family screen time after baths with dinner (it’s a relaxing treat around here to have dinner with some screen time)…and early to bed for the kids before the busy starts once again. Trying to enjoy this last month or so of school but I’m looking forward to the downtime that will come with summer break…

  5. Really busy with work but got some done this weekend so this week will be manageable…oh and I’m starting the Whole 30 tomorrow morning (think it’s my 4th time doing it), looking forward to it…

Happy Sunday!

Beach girl

  1. Such fun building sand castles with this girl and her brother yesterday…she called it the “Ooga Village” and we built it right at the high tide line so were continually rebuilding and trying to build barriers for the waves…there were turtles in the ocean and the sand was smooth like velvet and there were rainbows and I had thought about brining a book to the beach but Zo said, “But it’s Easter, we should play together as a family!” And she’s right, and so we did.

  2. Zo got a really fun card game called “Unstable Unicorns” for Easter and we have had such fun playing it…kids are home again from school today and we’ve been having a great time with that and “Pokemon War” (like regular War but with Pokemon cards, where Luke wins every hand against me but that’s OK because it’s over sooner lol) and “Bananagrams” which Luke got for Easter…love playing games with my kids…

  3. And games were followed by a reading session in our room…

  4. Beautiful rainbow over the ocean this morning…

  5. Our Colorado trip is coming together…so excited to see family and friends and spend some time in the mountains…

Happy Monday!
