Sea creature presentations
Kids did their sea creature presentations this week. (Zo had octopuses, Luke penguins.) They did so great. Zo even raised her hand and volunteered to go first!

Beautiful Hawaii, kombucha + cardboard boxes
Gorgeous walk yesterday…would’ve been perfect for snorkeling but I had deadlines…
Luke: “Mama, you seem like you are in your 20s!”
Kombucha after Jui Jitsu today…I had it years ago and thought I didn’t like it, but this was delicious…and apparently really good for you…
Love the smell of dirt that loosens as I’m watering our start of a garden…
Kids are having more fun than you could ever imagine with cardboard boxes and tape and scissors…
Happy Wednesday!

Toothless, playground + porch dinner and moonrise
Zo’s front teeth are starting to grow in…this cute toothless phase isn’t going to last forever…
A trip to the park yesterday, kids loved playing on the playground with a bunch of other kids…
Played “Ghost in the Graveyard” in the back yard with the kids, kind of like hide and seek…we had fun…
Dinner on the porch and waiting for the almost-full moon to rise…
Read a few chapters of The Brothers Karamazov last night…I’ve been reading this book on and off for literally years…I am determined to finish it…
A quiet Friday afternoon, Luke's independence + not a lot got done today
Luke isn’t feeling well and kids (and I) have been running ragged for weeks…so today after school they got some bonus screen time while I retired to the bedroom to get caught up on a bunch of small life stuff like updating my notebook, ordering from Amazon, making some notes for their lunches, etc.
Luke goes back and forth depending on the night but generally doesn’t want a sleep tuck-in any longer…rather, a hug and kiss and maybe a song and then asks for me to close the door on my way out. In theory I knew this transition would come…it’s still hard though…
Such an unproductive day but still I got done everything that needed to get done. There’s no specific reason why I was so unproductive…just happens sometimes you know…thankfully not often…
Signed kids up for 2 weeks of science camp today…so grateful that is an option and so glad they are so thrilled about the prospect. I went back and forth with the idea of keeping them home to save money and also to have our schedules really quiet…but I know getting work done is difficult under those circumstances (it’s how we spent last summer). This way I can get everything done and then be fully available to them after camp. Good to be realistic about what is happening in life and planning accordingly…
Our mint that we planted is looking really healthy and is over it’s transplant shock. Watching every day for our papaya seeds to come up…
Happy Friday!

Birthday party for Mrs. Talboys
Some pictures from the birthday party we threw Mrs. Talboys yesterday (Shelley gets all the credit), with pizza, a Family Feud-style Mrs. Talboys trivia game, a freeze dance contest and a beautiful mermaid cake. We’ve been so blessed to have such a wonderful first grade teacher!!
A rainbow on the ground, "I am a gummy bear" dance + the start of our garden
Building Sleeping Beauty’s castle with Zo today. I like following instructions with legos.
When Zo and I left to pick Luke up from last wrestling practice I saw something I’d never seen before and we were late or I would have stopped for a picture…a rainbow but it was a horizontal sheet very thick right above the horizon and it was just glowing incredibly. “Oh,” Zoey said like she saw that all the time, “That just means the unicorns are having babies.”
Rain is so good for the little we’ve planted in the garden…we’re just going to plant mint and papaya trees before Colorado, we have some irrigation issues to work out and want it to be easy for Jeff…
Luke dancing to “I am a Gummy Bear.” There’s a lip sync contest at the school in the spring, and Luke is already planning his performance with some of his friends. I need to get the dance on video, it is hilarious
Kids have their sea creature presentations next week that they have been working on all semester…we’re practicing every day and they are doing a terrific job…those I will video tape for sure…
Happy Thursday!

Mother's Day
There’s really nothing better than getting to hang out with my loves at our beach…

Spam musabi
You know your kids are adapting to Hawaii when they start to crave spam musabi for breakfast (essentially spam sushi…it’s everywhere…)

Freestyle at Lahainaluna
Luke opted in to a 2-week extension of wrestling season, “freestyle” which is a little different than what he’s been doing. They get to practice at the high school's wrestling facility, which is pretty cool. He’ll be wrestling this Saturday for the last time this year…
