Sleepover, backyard picnic + 13 crossings

Last week was lovely, once again. Highlights included a friend spending the night with the kids, a beach picnic that turned into a backyard picnic (it was a bit gray and it’s been unclear what the restrictions are right now) and a hike at 13 crossings. The backyard picnic was so fun and festive, we need to do that more often! And 13 crossings was so slippery! We all got banged up a bit but thankfully nothing major. Our friends Vanessa and Oz came with us and it was fun to have them!

My parents arrive on Thursday!!! So excited!!!

Happy Tuesday!

Election week 2020

Monday: Beachside lunch at Mala with my friend Vanessa (and after we went to drop off her ballot); Luke and Zo giving me stuffies to make me feel better when I was sad about my brother; Ben calling to say he and Jaimie are coming for X-mas.

Tuesday: Hot coffee first thing; awesome small surf at Breakwall; friends coming over for election results; smell of roasted chilis; made-from-scratch Mexican soup and beignets.

Wednesday: Watching Luke catch some waves (and surfing again myself); kids laughing hysterically when I kissed the bottoms of their feet and their stuffed animals on the lips; snuggling up on the couch and watching Hocus Pocus (which I clearly meant to do as a lead-up to Halloween, but better late than never).

Thursday: Lots of work, grateful for that; finishing our book “Wild Rescuers: Guardians of the Taiga” (which has been so fun).

Friday: Zoey telling me about her day (she dropped her lunch on the ground and then couldn’t get another, and then after school when her daddy took her to Safeway to get a snack discovered he didn’t have his wallet): “The universe is conspiring against my stomach!!”

Saturday: Lovely, lazy day at John and Jo’s, food, family, dominoes, etc. I cried at the end of Joe Biden’s victory speech. I didn’t realize ‘til then how much I didn’t want Trump to be president again.

Sunday: Duck pond! We haven’t been in a long time because we’ve been exploring other places. Good to see Ducky McDuckerson again. Also brunch at home together. And I’m about to surf. And Jeff and I have plans for a happy hour date night while the kids play with a friend for a couple hours.

Jerica's birthday, Halloween + a forest hike

Halloween this week! And our friend Jerica’s birthday! We dressed up and had dinner at Jerica’s Thursday and then Saturday did a scavenger hunt at four houses ending up at Jerica’s again for pumpkin carving and time together. The scavenger hunt was great! May do that again even if we are able to trick or treat in the future. Luke was Harry Potter and Zo was a dementor, which is a monster in the Harry Potter series. I still need to get a good picture of her in costume. Lots of reading this week too. And today we did a hike with John and Jo (that’s becoming our Sunday thing) with lunch at Kula Bistro.

Good week. And my parents are coming to visit this month…cannot wait!!!

Happy Sunday!

Pool time, Thursday night dinner, beach afternoon + Wahine'e Ridge

Fun week this week, as always. Some highlights:

  • Pool time with friend Kylan who’s been staying at a nearby resort (it’s been pretty tourists free)

  • Luke had his first week of surf camp and stood up! (Not pictured.) Excited for him! And I’ve been running Kylan to and from school since he’s been on the way, expecting nothing in return, but Kylan’s dad surprised me and paid Luke’s surf camp tuition for this unit…it was such a nice thing to do…

  • Thursday night dinner (thanks Felix for cooking!) with the usual crew (including Cheddar, who is the dog with Newton)

  • Nice beach afternoon Saturday (after surf for me in the morn)

  • Wahine’e Ridge today with John and Jo…or part of it anyway…there are tons fo guava ripe right now both the strawberry and pineapple types…we shook trees full of them and down they came…so delicious…

Happy Sunday!

Pumpkin patch 2020

I’m hoping this year is the only COVID-era pumpkin patch for us but I’ve got to say Kula Country Farms did a fantastic job!! Kids picked out a deformed pumpkin which already has eyebrows or a mustache, we haven’t decided which. And we were so grateful to have Daddy with! Amigos for mexican food rounded out the outing. Carving next week. And instead of trick-or-treating this year we’re going to do a little scavenger hunt…should be fun!

Maui vacation

We all had the week off and had such fun! Great spending time together doing things on Maui we had yet to do.

Monday: Sunrise at S-turns, Mala with friends, catching “Nippy” the lizard (who was let go that night), sunset at our beach.

Tuesday: Start of the Road to Hana, waterfall hike, Ichiban eaten at the harbor while watching crabs, surfing.

Wednesday: Swimming at Honoua Kai with kids’ friend Kylan, dinner and debate at Jerica’s with friends.

Thursday: Haleakala hike.

Friday: Another quick swim with Kylan, camping at Windmills with Jerica and Sy.

Saturday: Camping, 13 Crossings hike, olivine pools, Wizard Run (we did a virtual 5K…Sy was the MC at our little awards ceremony).

Sunday: Camping, a’a Roots for lunch, Harry Potter movie curled up on the couch with the kids.

Plus no computer at all, sleeping in, lots of time with Jeff. It’s been a lovely week.

Back to reality tomorrow. Jeff flies out on Thursday so trying to push anything that doesn’t absolutely have to be done until after that so that we have as much time just spent together as possible. It’s all gonna be OK…

A fire, puppy love + a sleepover

We had a fire nearby last week but just brush burned, thankful for our firefighters! And caught Luke loving on Newton one morning…grateful he’s recovered from surgery. Sleepover for kids to start Fall Break. I worked really hard during the week and worked on my book over the weekend, Jeff took the kids so I could make some progress which was great.

Fall break this week I’ll have lots of pictures to share. We’re all off and on vacation in Hawaii! So fun…

Happy Wednesday!
