Lumeria Maui
Some pictures from the place we spent our 10th anniversary this past weekend…and actually the pictures don’t do it justice, it’s got touch a lovely feel about it…one of my favorite places ever…can’t wait to return…
Making the ocean bigger, a lesson on earning rewards + mist and rain while hiking
BBQ at our house yesterday, such a neat crowd of people, we had so much fun
Zo after digging a hole by the ocean (which filled with water) and then connecting it to the ocean via a channel: “I just made the ocean bigger!”
Luke and Zo learning important lessons in Jui Jitsu after other kids earned stripes and they didn’t. They were sad and wanted a stripe and we had a long talk about how not every kid gets a stripe and they are the new kids and need to work hard and focus on themselves and then the stripes will come
Misty/at times rainy hike today, it was really nice to be out in it…
I love love love our next-door neighbors here, they are the sweetest…
Happy Monday!

Movie making, an anniversary getaway + it feels good to relax
Luke and Zo had fun making movies during their Fall Break…we had such a fun time at home this past week…did I mention the yarn spider web the kids made throughout the whole upstairs? That was pretty cool although they really don’t want me to take it down and I can’t see leaving it up until Halloween like they want to, so we’ll see what shakes out with that…
Jeff and I got away for an overnight on Friday to celebrate our anniversary (our friend Vanessa watched the kids), it was so wonderful…we stayed at the most beautiful place…I’ll share pictures next week…
And yesterday we seriously relaxed, watching TV and movies with the kids, ordering in Chinese for dinner, going to bed early…I can’t remember the last time we did that but I have been feeling so incredibly worn down, it was fun family time, it was soooo needed and this morning I feel 100% again…
Drinking coffee this morning and getting organized for the week ahead…
And we’re having a little football BBQ this afternoon, should be really fun…
Happy Sunday!

The O in ALOHA, spider webs + popsicles and bunnies
Zo in the middle of the ALOHA sign, visiting Daddy at work when he had to work late the other night…
Zo to me: “I want my unicorn to sleep with you, so he can watch over you all night.”
Kids have taken a skein of yarn and made a spider web upstairs encompassing both of their rooms, with lego bugs caught throughout and a nursery section for spider eggs. Over fall break I’ve suspended the rules of keeping the upstairs picked up at the end of each day…it’s a disaster up there but the kids sure have had fun with yarn and legos and MagnaTiles and train setups and My Little Ponies and stuffies…
Zo, after I flopped on the couch, groaning in frustration at having to ask the kids to brush their teeth 10 times before it happened: “Mommy you could eat a popsicle. Popsicles always make me feel better. Or holding a bunny.”
Luke putting on a play for me with sets and props, (he’s also putting together a new “Anniversary Play” as I type this), and also playing “Battle Bots” with me on the bed yesterday…people say TV kills children’s imagination, but I find the opposite is true as the kids tend to do very elaborate versions of the shows they’ve seen, acting out all the parts, coming up with the components in very unique ways, eg bed pillows stand in for robots when playing Battle Bots. Fun to watch their minds at work…
I couldn’t sleep last night and so Jeff and I sat on the back porch, talking about our anniversary (which is today), the good and bad of the past 10 years and how happy we are that we are together…
Happy Friday!!

Building and making things, Harry Potter + I hope these pops are delicious!!
It’s Tuesday of Fall Break and we’ve stayed home most of the day, kids had some screen time and are building things upstairs and I just gave them my phone for a little movie making session although I can hear them arguing…dueling artistic visions lol…
We’re reading Harry Potter for the first time and kids are getting so into it…
We got a book of healthy popsicles from the library and are going to make Blackberry Swirl pops this afternoon…I hope the kids like the pops in this book because we can do popsicles year round here and these are packed with nutrition…
Luke and I did an impromptu sunrise swim yesterday (Zo wasn’t interested and her Daddy was home so it was OK to leave her behind)…although it ended up being a little after the peak of the sunrise by the time we got into the water…tomorrow we’re going to leave a little earlier…can’t wait…
I’ve been cutting Zoey’s bangs and they actually look pretty good…
The Better Call Saul marathon continues…we’re about halfway through Season 3…
Happy Tuesday!

Chinese museum, Lahaina
Kids—Luke especially—wanted to go to a museum over Fall Break so yesterday we went into Lahaina as saw the Chinese museum and the Baldwin house…fun…

Beautiful beaches, a fun Saturday + Harry Potter
So grateful to be living in such a beautiful place…
Been doing some things differently in terms of planning my days and giving myself deadlines for specific tasks and liking the results…
Takeout Chinese and a movie with the kids and our friend Vanessa last night…fun…
It’s Saturday morning and I’m about to go hike the costal trail while the kids have their screen time, Jeff and I will take them to their Jui Jitsu lesson and then out to lunch after, work on the project in our side yard, take the kids swimming later in the afternoon, relax this evening…it should be a great day…
I started reading the kids Harry Potter last night…we’ve talked about reading them one book a year and then watching the movie after…should be fun…
Happy Weekend!

A new beach, over-lambed + spelling practice
We found new beach after school today…I’ve been scouting out surf and the waves were pretty decent by the house, thought there might be something to see up there but there wasn’t…but kids and I had a good time exploring…
Zo: “My lambs are over-sistered! There are too many sisters!” (Said of her stuffie lamb collection.)
Luke and Zo practicing spelling words with each other in the car on the way to school. They have 10 words and they put each into a sentence, following a storyline which is pretty cool. eg: “The lambs and the ducks HAD a race.” “The lambs WILL be there on time.” “A CAT will be racing too.”
Kids are starting to write sentences in school…it’s thrilling for their writer mama…
And as we speak they are upstairs playing “school” with their stuffed animals.
Fall break starts today…10 days with no school…we’ve got lots of fun things planned…
Talked with a good Steamboat friend today, great to catch up…
I’m 3 for 4 of workouts this week…planning to do the last one tomorrow before Jeff goes to work…
The house is looking awfully Halloween-y…and we’ve got a couple fun crafts for break, excited…
I’m so excited about our anniversary! I’ve got a great little plan in the works…
Happy Thursday!

Jui Jitsu, office dreams + our rooster
It’s a couple days ago now but what fun we had at the beach on Sunday!
Kids started Jui Jitsu yesterday and I couldn’t be more excited for them! About 20 kids and the instructor was phenomenal. Zo was a little reserved at first but by halfway through had a huge smile on her face and both she and Luke were raising hands to volunteer. It’s 3 days a week, which is more than I was planning on doing in terms of after-school activities but I think it’s going to be really great for them and they are so enthusiastic…
Cleaned my office yesterday and have a list of minor improvements to make this my dream space, eg, an office chair, bulletin board, maybe a couple small rugs to make it more home-y and less garage-y, etc.
Here’s what my day is looking like: Work, kids to school, workout, work, plan anniversary, school pick-up, errands, homework, dinner, family time. Busy typical mom stuff and I love being a mom…
Our rooster crowing to start my day…
Happy Tuesday!
