Sis With Mama's Makeup Brush
I don't wear a lot of makeup, but there's a lot of interest from Sis when I put something on in the morning. She likes to borrow my powder brush. Sometimes I let her put a light pink powder on her face...you can't see it...she loves it...
Speaking of which, with warmer weather on the way, maybe it's time to break out the fun Hello Kitty nail polish colors we have for our little beauty...

Luke Works the Excavator at the Playground
Cool-to-cold when the sun went behind this morning's big, puffy clouds, warm when it peeked though.
Everywhere we go--like this morning, and last night's after-dinner-almost-full-moon-walk with Daddy and Newton--I've been telling the kids, "Look for green leaves on the trees. Any day now we'll see them."
"That's a sign of spring," Luke says this morning, in the car on the way to the park.
"Yes, Buddy, that's exactly right."
"Uncle Luke was an architect," Zo says, completely off topic. (This is how our conversations go these days.)
"Yes, he was," I say, wondering how she knows that. I don't remember telling her, although I may have at one point.
"Yes," she says. "He got in an accident. And then he got off his motorcycle and went to Heaven."
There's been a lot of talk about Uncle Luke lately. I've been thinking about him a lot, too. He would love that we're going to Steamboat. It's something he would do...

Zo, in a public restroom: "Mommy, you don't need to hold me. This is not a fally potty." (Meaning it's small enough for her to fit comfortably. The kids love going to the restroom when we're out and about, by the way. They have a huge fear of hand dryers, though, which they call "blowers." Whenever we go into a restroom without one they say, very relieved, "No blower!"
Luke, late at night when he should have been asleep and I went back to check on him: "Mommy, this is UNACCEPTABLE!" And then I round the corner and see he's been peeling the wallpaper off the wall and it is all over the floor...
Zo: "Mommy, I like your mole. Can I have a mole when I grow up and become a mommy?"
Luke to me: "Sweetheart, we need to go to the library." (I call them sweetheart and sweetie all the time.)
Five times (at least) a day the kids ask: "Where do babies come from?"
What started off with the kids calling themselves "Baby Train" and me "Mommy Train" and Daddy "Daddy Train" has spread to many other animals and objects. Some days we have baby mountain goat, baby bear, baby frog, baby kitty, baby tree. You never know what's going to show up...
Luke, outside after his Sissy threw snow at him: "Sis made me Snowy! I make YOU snowy!" (Said while throwing snow back at his sister.)
Luke, lying in bed one morning talking to me about various things: "Uncle Luke will come back from Heaven when he's feeling better, right Mommy?"

Quiet Morning
Sometimes it's nice just to hang around the house without a lot going on, have a leisurely breakfast, play in the playroom, stay in PJs 'til 11 and then take off the shirt Mommy put on you so you can put star sticker all over your chest...

Construction Site
Down the street from us they have torn down an old car wash and are building a gas station.
Nothing more fun for the kids right now than to drive down there and see what's happening.

Luke: "It's Sunday! Why aren't we going to the circus?"
Me: "Luke, Honey, it's Friday...why do you think it's Sunday?"
Luke: Because the sun is out. And it's a day."
Me: "Luke and Zoey! It is nap time! You're supposed to be sleeping! What are you doing?"
Zo: "We're yaking!"
Luke: "And starting a tickle fight!"
(These phrases courtesy of the library book "Simpson's Sheep Won't Go to Sleep," where instead of sleeping the sheep yak and need a drink and start tickle fights with each other, etc. There is a lot of play surrounding things read about in books or seen on TV lately...)
Me, after 10 minutes of extracting half a cashew stuck WAY up Sissy's nose: "Sis, how did the cashew get into your nose?"
Zo: "It jumped into my nose!"
Zo, waking up from nap a few days after the circus: "Mommy, come on! I'm going to do a show!"
And then she sat me on the couch and brought me pretend water from her play kitchen and a bowlful of pretend popcorn, and then sang and danced around the living room. Ridiculously cute.
Luke, out and about: "Look! A CPS truck!"
Daddy: "UPS truck, Buddy. UPS."
(We have had discussions about CPS--child protective services--with our kids when they say things like they want us to leave them somewhere by themselves e.g. the zoo, we explain that CPS would frown on that so it's not something we can do...)
Zo to me, while we were waiting for Daddy while he ran into the liquor store: "What's Daddy getting?"
Me: "Whiskey."
Zo: "Oh, like the whiskey we drank at the circus!"
(Actually, what she and her daddy had at the circus was root beer. And the kids have been told in the past that beer is something just for grownups, something I'm sure we've said about whiskey as well...)

Packing for Colorado
We told the kids a few days ago that we're moving back to Colorado.
They are SO excited (as are we).
The next morning, I heard the kids wake and came down the hall to find this.
"Luke, what are you doing?" I said.
"I'm packing up my Hot Wheels so I'm all ready to go to Colorado."

Field Trip: Santa Fe Folk Art Museum
Kids did great on this museum trip. (Better than I expected.) We had lunch at the African Jambo Cafe after (where one of the waiters danced for Luke, much to his delight). I expected the kids to nap in the car on the way home but instead they were crazy people (in a good and funny way, just full of it).
So easy not to do stuff like this because I always feel so busy juggling kid/work/house/errands/dinner/etc. demands. But it's totally worth the effort.

Trash Truck Day
"Mommy, what day is it?" Luke asks me every day of the week. "Is it Trash Truck Day?"
Trash Truck Day is Tuesday, and it is not an exaggeration to say it is the highlight of the week.
The kids listen for the trash truck from inside the house and when they hear it they say, "Mommy! Mommy! Trash Truck!!!!" and we run outside as fast as we can.
Sometimes, like today, it's across the street.
Sometimes it's right in front of the house when we get outside and when that happens, the trash man uses the arm of the truck to push the can in extra far, close to us.
Love that such little things bring the kids such pleasure.

Circus
Bubs ate a whole box of popcorn by himself and said his favorite thing was the clowns.
Sis ate most of a box of popcorn and said her favorite thing was "the white people," (AKA, the ice princess acrobats from "Frozen."
At intermission, we asked the kids if they wanted to go or to watch more and they were both all about watching more.
Bubs asked if we could go again tomorrow.
After she got home, Sis found the Spider Man valentine she got from a friend and said that next time she wanted to bring it with her and show it to Spider Man, who had been there doing flips and spins, flying through the air.
Great day at the circus...could not have had more fun.

Library Books We Love: February 2015
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love "Once Upon an Alphabet." I want to write a book like that...
