Feeling Crafty
Work has slowed down a bit for the first time in forever and I'm feeling crafty. And I just discovered this AMAZING blog called Creature Comforts and their magazine called Gifted which has a bazillion holiday ideas. Some I want to try:
Thanksgiving Decorations at My Brother's
There'll be about 20 people and I'm in charge of table decor. I'm thinking some combination of the candles (minus the mushrooms), the fabric tree, similar ribbons of fabric tied around the napkins with some sort of place card (ribbon threaded through, like gift tags), and single stems of flowers (eg freseias) in old bottles.

Something Festive for the Holidays
We're going to Europe over the holidays (our long-awaited honeymoon!) and so won't be doing a lot of holiday decorating this year. I thought this might be nice to hang above our bed for the winter:

Gifts
Last year my husband and I baked and sent out gifts--so fun. Maybe we'll make these cookies this year.

A Meal to Celebrate Daylight Savings Time (Fall)
I always mean to start designating traditional meals for different holidays and special days. We had a great dinner on Sunday and so I’ll make this the first.
Daylight Savings Time (Fall) Menu
- Tamale pie (cooked in the crock pot)
- Cornbread muffins with butter
- Salad with beets, bleu cheese and sunflower seeds
An Email From the California Friends I'm Seeing Tonight...
SFO, waiting for the tram. Fall in love with the hills again every time I fly in.
This email totally made my day: :)
"We get to see you, yay! Poor you--we had such a relaxed weekend I read ALL of my cooking magazines and you will now be subjected to a tiny Thanksgiving meal, Southwestern style. But before I do this, I wanted to make sure the menu was okay. Because I can change anything. ;) It would be a small roasted turkey breast with guajillo-tamarind glaze with roasted poblano gravy, sweet potatoes with chile cream sauce, arugula salad with pomegrantes and roasted walnuts and possibly some cornbread. It won't be too spicy hot, probably sounds like it though! lol... Let me know! Looking forward to catching up..."
Pickled Beets
The beets just before pickling.
I live near my mom and dad, which is wonderful for a zillion reasons. Like: I get to go over on a Thursday afternoon and can pickled beets--beets my mom pulled out of her organic garden that morning. There were a lot of pickled beets in my childhood. They’re going to be lovely in the dark of winter.
